Tell me again why they have a list of banished words and phrases? So they've been misused, abused, and overused? So what? Truthfully, I enjoy reading the list each year. But not so I can know which words not to say. I don't care a flip about the list, and I'm gonna prove it:
Well it seems it's that time of year again. People everywhere are resolving to lose weight, save money, get organized, or even to go green. But is it even possible to keep these promises made at the beginning of each year? I'm guessing, no. My mom knows a lady who tried it backwards one year. This woman resolved to not lose weight and not save money. By the end of the year, she had lost some weight, and saved a little money. So maybe reverse phsycology is the answer to the problem. Maybe we should try resolving to gain weight, spend money carelessly, and to do nothing to lower the measurements on carbon footprints. Sounds foolish, maybe, but it just might work.
Resolution strategies covered, let's move on to another pressing issue of the new year--politics. Our country's new president will be sworn in in just a few short weeks. But is he the right choice? My answer is no, he isn't. During last year's campaigns, conservatives all agreed that John McCain was a Maverick, and Obama, not so much. This junior senator from Illinois, with socialist notions, highly liberal ideas, and a general anti-American attitude somehow charmed his way into the candidacy and now, the presidency, and now it is the belief of many Americans that he will save the country. But this is not the case. Obama's plans, from his support of a government bailout to his new economic policies, will do nothing to help this country solve its problems. Instead, these pressing problems are merely being swept under the rug. What does that mean? It means that when the next conservative takes office (Sarah Palin and the first-dude, perhaps), they will have to take on those problems and, as a result, will be forced to make hard decisions that could make them unpopular. You see, the only reason that Barack Obama is so iconic is because he's telling people what they want to hear, instead of what they need to hear. This has caused problems in the past, and will undoubtedly do the same this time around.
Now to another issue--the economy. Is it really as bad as the news media portrays? Or are they the cause of the problem in the first place? Did the media convince the country that Wall Street was in a crisis, and as a result, people stopped spending money? In all probabilty, that is exactly what happened. And now they are on a desperate search for an answer
Enough about the downside of things, let's move on to something more positive. Most people share a mutual <3 for the internet, so let's discuss the world wide web. It's well-known that the internet is host to a variety of people, from game-changers to lazy dudes on an extended staycation, the internet has them all. These web monkeys gather on forums to discuss who's the latest winner of five nominations, and who needs to go back to their day jobs. Strange that people who have been divided by political opinions and problems can all be brought together through the internet. Something to consider, I suppose.
